Tai Ceredigion’s energy efficient major improvement plans to the blocks of flats in Penparcau have begun. Scaffolding went up before Christmas and now the workmen have started on the major external revamp, which will be completed by April/May.
The facelift to the flats will not only be pleasing on the eye, but also economically beneficial to residents, as the buildings will effectively be given a new over blanket with the installation of external wall insulation which could save tenants and leaseholders up to 40% on their heating bills. Also the flats will have new windows, patio doors and balconies as well as an efficient new heating system.
These plans form the first phase of work after Tai Ceredigion secured a £550,000 grant from the Welsh Assembly Government ARBED scheme to help fund green energy projects within Aberystwyth’s Regeneration Area.
Steve Jones said “We are thrilled that work has commenced on site and will provide affordable warmth to our tenants and leaseholders, as well as updating the rented properties internally to meet the Assembly Government’s current Welsh Housing Quality Standard.”
Llyr Edwards, Tai Ceredigion’s Director of Property Services made this safety statement to the local community “It is paramount that people are careful around the work site and are vigilant that children do not climb the scaffolding. There are strict health and safety guidelines around building sites and everyone needs to follow them.”
Tai Ceredigion is also working hard across other parts of the county, with tenants being consulted on the improvement programme to bring housing up to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard, and new green energy heating systems being trialled in a number of rural areas away from mains gas supplies, instead of expensive oil or gas. Next on the list they have plans to consult with tenants and owner occupiers on the proposed external re design of an estate in Llanarth, following on from the recent consultation on improvements to car parking and road safety in Tal Y Bont. Tai Ceredigion has plans to spend up to £40m in the next four years on external and internal home improvements.
