Last week saw local housing association Tai Ceredigion hold its second annual Tenant Conference in Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan. Over 60 tenants attended getting their questions answers regarding the upcoming improvement works to their homes to bring them up to Welsh Housing Quality Standard by 2015.
The conference entitled “Preparing for the Welsh Housing Quality Standard” had been organised by the Tenant Monitoring Group. It consisted of presentations from the Executive team and a guest speaker, Karl Thomas, the Head of Rent Officers Wales who spoke about the recent and forthcoming housing benefits changes and how it will affect Tai Ceredigion tenants.
The conference closed with interactive sessions asking what the tenants’ perceptions of the improvements programme are and the housing association’s expectations of the tenants. There was even a free raffle, arranged by the Monitoring Group, with a prize of a vacuum cleaner which they had received after placing a large stationary order.
Louise Hill, from the Tenant Monitoring Group said about the conference “It was an excellent opportunity to ask questions about the improvement works programme and get face to face with the Tai Ceredigion management team.”
Carol Irving, a Tai Ceredigion tenant in Tanygroes added “It was a worthwhile conference which was very informative and gave us an insight into the housing association and a chance to question and criticise the future plans.”
Llyr Edwards, Director of Property Services said “We want to thank the tenants for attending as their feedback is vital and we need to work together. The housing association will now be prioritising five main areas in improving tenants’ homes which are kitchens, bathrooms, electrical works, heating and new windows and doors. We are also committed to working with local companies, local people and delivering the best service and value for our tenants.”
