Commenting on Consumer Focus Wales’ report on the implementation of the recommendations of the Pennington report on the 2005 E.Coli outbreak in South Wales, Shadow Minister for Health Andrew RT Davies AM said:
“I am pleased to see that much positive work has been achieved and that there is some promising activity currently in progress.
“However, I am deeply concerned that three of the recommendations have not been put into action.
“We must not forget the devastating effect the 2005 outbreak had for a significant number of families in South Wales.
“All the recommendations must be carried through robustly and effectively in order to prevent a similar outbreak occurring again in Wales.
“The key stakeholders must work collaboratively to ensure that consumers in Wales receive the best possible protection from ecoli O157 and other harmful bacteria that can live in food.
“The Assembly Government and local authorities in Wales need to ensure that enough funding is available to do the extra work necessary as a result of the recommendations.”
