Take care of your dogs this bonfire

Dog owners in Denbighshire are being urged to take steps to protect the safety of their animals in the run up to Bonfire Night.

The Council receives an increase in the number of stray dogs around this time of year as a result of animals being frightened unexpectedly by fireworks. Stray dogs are picked up by the council as part of public safety concerns and to prevent any road traffic collisions from happening,

Owners should check when local displays are scheduled, as they are not only confined to the 5th November. Fireworks can be let off sporadically in the run up to Bonfire Night and when walking their dog, owners should keep it on a lead to prevent it running away if frightened unexpectedly.

On the first occasion a dog is picked up and it has been chipped or has a collar and tag the warden will return the animal to its owner’s address and there is a charge of £25 for this service.

If the animal has been found as a stray previously, the warden will take the dog to the kennels and the resulting charge will be higher. If the animal has no identification, the dog will be taken to kennels resulting in higher charges.

Charges can be between £40-70 plus kennelling fees for dogs found out of hours (5pm-10am Mon-Fri, Weekends and Bank Holidays)
