A Charity Rowing Challenge is taking place at Hawthorn Leisure Centre on Friday, 28 October.
Staff and visitors to the Rhondda Cynon Taf run Leisure Centre will be taking part in Wear It Pink Day, organised nationwide to raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign. Last year thousands of people around the country wore pink clothing for the day, raising more than £2m.
The Wear It Pink event has been held at Hawthorn Leisure Centre, Rhydyfelin, for two years and has so far raised more than £800, with around 150 people taking part each year.
Adult participants need to pay just £5 to take part in such activities as Zumba, Bodymax, Aerobiking, Pilates, Kettlebell and Circuits.
As part of the Council’s Half Term activities, children aged 8 and above can also take part in Cricket, Basketball, Football, Netball and Dance Skills taster sessions for just £2.50.
But on top of that, the gauntlet has been thrown down for people to take part in a 2,000 metre rowing challenge for adults and a 500 metre rowing challenge for children in the Zenith Suite.
Gym staff will also be on hand offering mini fitness tests, body fat checks and blood pressure checks.
Leisure for Life is a Rhondda Cynon Taf Council campaign that aims to get people of all ages into exercise in a bid to improve their health and wellbeing.
It is all about taking simple steps to make exercise part of your daily routine and reaping the health benefits alongside potential weight loss, enhanced fitness, muscle gain or even improved socialisation.
Cllr Robert Bevan, Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “The rowing challenge is going to be extremely popular and I wish all those taking part all the very best.
“If you are unable to take part on the day, please support the participants by sponsoring them, details of which are available at Hawthorn Leisure Centre.”
