Taking the plunge for cancer care cash

Swimmers of all ages and abilities made waves at Penarth Leisure Centre by taking part in Swimathon 2010 – the world’s biggest fundraising swim.

By completing a challenge of swimming up to 5km, the Vale of Glamorgan-based swimmers joined more than 20,000 swimmers at over 500 pools nationwide raising much-needed funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is one of the UK’s largest charities, employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, it expects to provide care to around 27,000 terminally ill patients in the community and in its hospices this year and is the largest provider of hospice beds outside the NHS. Every £20 raised helps Marie Curie Nurses to provide one hour of support to a terminally ill patient.
