A warm Welsh welcome will await a delegation of young people and staff from five European countries when they take part in a visit to Denbighshire.
The delegation, from Slovenia, Portugal, Poland, Turkey and Romania will arrive in the county at the end of February for a short visit to Prestatyn, during which they will spend time with pupils from Ysgol y Llys.
On Tuesday, 28th February the young people, as well as youngsters from Ysgol y Llys, will work with artist Tim Pugh.
On Wednesday, 29th February they will visit Electric Mountain and Llyn Padarn in Llanberis on an educational visit.
On Thursday , 1st March they will join pupils, parents and staff from Ysgol y Llys in a special parade along Prestatyn High Street to mark St David’s Day- to hear Welsh spoken and to hear traditional Welsh songs. They will then return to the school to enjoy a special St David’s Day lunch. The School’s Parents and Teachers Association has arranged a supper in Meliden in the evening, and the intention is to arrange a ceilidh.
Dyfan Phillips, Headteacher at Ysgol y Llys said: “The School Council has invited other primary schools from Prestatyn to join in the celebrations, to help raise the profile of the Welsh language in the town and to our visitors. This event will also promote Welshness among our own pupils.
“Our pupils will be distributing St David’s Day posters and pamphlets to town businesses with simple sentences that can be used to help people speak Welsh”.
This event is being supported by Prestatyn Town Council and Denbighshire County Council’s Highways department.
