Coleg Gwent catering students have been officially thanked for their help with a show stopping gala dinner prior to Newport’s Food Festival.
Level 2 Professional Cookery students from Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys Campus were presented with certificates in November by the Mayor of Newport for their hard work supporting a show piece gala dinner prior to the Food Festival.
Guests were taken on culinary and historical journey for the show piece dinner held on Friday 4 October in Newport market. The feast consisted of a three course meal, cooked by Newport born Michelin star chef, Hywel Jones of Lucknam Park. Twenty Coleg Gwent students helped serve at the dinner and two students helped Hywel in the kitchen.
For the third year running, Coleg Gwent students were asked to serve the gala dinner for the Newport Food Festival. Lecturer Mark Jameson said: “It’s a marvellous opportunity for the students to get exposure and develop their confidence. The group were thrilled to be recognised for their work.”
Newport Food Festival was organised by Newport City Council and Newport Unlimited, the Urban Regeneration Company for Newport. With master classes, demonstrations, cook-offs and stalls, the aim of the event was to attract visitors to the City of Newport and to support local produce.
