The 1st of December is recognised internationally as World AIDS Day and is preceded by AIDS Awareness Week, beginning annually on 24th November. The aim of World AIDS Day and AIDS Awareness Week is to raise consciousness in the community about HIV/AIDS issues, including the need for support and understanding for people living with HIV/AIDS, and the need for the development of education and prevention initiatives.
To help raise awareness, social worker, Dave, will be running a stall all day on Monday 30th November in the Concourse area of the University Hospital of Wales. Information, Red Ribbons & Condoms will be freely available to anyone passing through. Any money raised will be given to THT Cymru’s Hardship Fund (based In Cardiff) to assist local people living with HIV/AIDS. There will also be a number of events happening in and around Cardiff over the ensuing week.

‘Five people worldwide die of AIDS every minute of every day. HIV has hit every corner of the globe, infecting more than 33 million men, women and children, 3 million of them last year alone. In the UK alone, more than 80,000 people are living with HIV and more than 7,000 more are diagnosed every year. Ignorance and prejudice are fuelling the spread of a preventable disease.
World AIDS Day, 1st, December is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and AIDS. This year, it’s up to YOU, ME and US to stop the spread of HIV and end prejudice.
There is still no cure, AIDS has not gone away. We have to make a difference by our own actions as doing nothing will only make it worse. HIV is one of the biggest social, economic and health challenges in the world. It is a global emergency claiming over 8,000 lives every day.
