The BBC’s nationwide hunt for Britain’s most compelling real-life stories kicks off at Newport’s Riverfront Theatre on Saturday October 17 at 10am.
The My Story Road Show is set to be a fun-packed day to launch the competition. Visitors are invited to take part in hands-on film workshops with Video Nation, pick up story-telling tips from their local BBC team and add their own stories and memories to the BBC’s Idea Generator and Memory Wall.
Hosted by Radio Wales presenter Louise Elliot on the main stage, the Road Show will also feature Falklands’ veteran Simon Weston sharing his extraordinary story at 11am, followed by author and TV Presenter Kim Woodburn at midday and Pontypridd-born writer Catrin Collier, author of Hearts of Gold – which was filmed as a mini-series by the BBC – in the afternoon.
The BBC are asking Newport residents to share their true, untold, real-life stories in 300-1500 words by joining in the Road Show and then submitting their entries online. If you’re keen to create your own story for the competition support will available at the Road Show from the BBC’s story gatherers and provided by the Open University.
Tales from 15 finalists selected from across the nation will be featured on BBC1 in 2010. Then five winners will be selected to have their experiences published as paperback books. Newport residents with a tale to tell are invited to enter the competition online at www.bbc.co.uk/mystory
