Temporary closure of city centre underpass

Swansea Council is closing a pedestrian underpass in the city centre after the discovery of loose concrete.

The underpass, which stretches between Wind Street and Somerset Place, will be closed temporarily while work is completed to remove the damaged masonry.

Carl Humphrey, Head of Highways in Swansea Council, said: “During a routine inspection of the walkway we discovered some loose concrete which was at risk of coming away from the internal structure.

“Closing the underpass for a few days will enable us to carry out the repairs quickly without putting pedestrians in any danger.

“Alternative safe crossing points are available at Quay parade opposite Sainsburys and at the junction of Victoria Road and Princess Way. Hopefully we can reopen the underpass by the weekend.”
