Police have made a further two arrests following the death of a 60 year old man discovered in Broad Street, Pill in the early hours of Saturday morning (August 20th, 2011) bringing the total to ten arrests.
A 21 year old woman and a 22 year old man have been arrested on suspicion of death by driving without due care and attention and failing to stop at the scene of an accident. They are in police custody at this time.
Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder: a 19 year old man and a 23 year old woman have been released on police bail pending further enquiries; a 23 year old woman has been released with no further action. A 25 year old man (who officers have been granted more time to question) remains in police custody.
Four people (two men, aged 22 and 44 and two women aged 18 and 46) were also arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless and inconsiderate driving and failure to report a road traffic collision and released on police bail pending further enquiries.
All of those arrested are from the Newport area.
Police continue to appeal for anyone with information about the incident or anyone who was in the Broad Street, Pill area between the hours of 2am and 4am on Saturday morning to get in touch as they may have vital information.
