Tenants move in to first phase of redeveloped housing complex

Tenants are now moving in to the first phase of a recently redeveloped sheltered housing complex in Connah’s Quay.

As part of Flintshire County Council’s aim to improve the availability of quality older person’s accommodation, eight modern one-bedroom flats at Glan y Morfa Court in Connah’s Quay have been created out of 12 former bed-sits.

This is the first phase of work at the complex, and follows extensive consultation with existing tenants at Glan y Morfa, councillors and officers.

The remodelling works to the first phase began in 2010 and have just been completed, with the first new tenants now moving in.

Handing over the keys to one of the new tenants, Mr Eddie Speed, Councillor Helen Brown, executive member for Housing at Flintshire County Council said:

“It’s wonderful to see the tenants now moving in to the new apartments here at Glan y Morfa, which have been finished to an excellent standard. Not only does this provide much improved living accommodation for the tenants involved, but it also includes a number of energy efficiency measures, including solar panels for domestic hot water to each flat.”

The work was carried out by contractors, GM Jones (Builders) Ltd.

The second phase of the scheme will turn 16 more bed-sits in the Glan y Morfa complex into four one-bedroom and four two-bedroom flats.
