Tenby lifeboat rescues father and children kayakers

Tenby’s all-weather lifeboat was tasked at 12.51am yesterday by Milford Haven Coastguard following a report from a member of the public saying there was a kayaker and two young children trapped in Box bay near Broadhaven.

A father with two young children had been kayaking from Stackpole Quay. They decided to land in Box bay to have some lunch, but when ashore the sea conditions changed and the waves began to build.

The party, who were all wearing buoyancy aids found they were unable to get past the surf line on the kayak without capsizing. They returned to beach and raised the alarm by shouting to passersby at the top of the cliff.

Tenby lifeboat arrived on scene after a 20 minute passage from Tenby and deployed the daughter Y boat to access the isolated beach, the crew recovered the oldest child followed by the father and then youngest to the all-weather lifeboat.

The casualties were taken to Stackpole Quay and landed safely ashore to be assisted by Tenby and St Govan’s Coast rescue team.
