Despite the severe weather that has been lingering over Merthyr Tydfil County Borough this past week, Residential Care Workers and Home Care Staff have been able to continue to provide their invaluable services to vulnerable people within the County Borough, thanks to Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council’s Environmental Services Team.
A transportation service was laid-on for staff who would otherwise have not been able to reach their place of work because of the snow and severe icy conditions. Staff were picked up, taken to work and then driven home again to ensure that they were able to deliver the essential services they provide on a daily basis.
Clair Bartz and Tracey Jenkins, Home Managers and part of the Council’s Social Care Support Services team, said: “We would like to thank the Customer Community Services directorate team for their support during the recent bad weather. Our staff need to be able to come in and out of work to provide a service to the vulnerable service users residing at the homes and our staff have found this service extremely beneficial.”
Giovanni Isingrini, Director of Integrated Adult Services, said: “During the severe weather that is currently being experienced, our primary concern is to maintain the support needed by our most vulnerable customers and communities. Thanks to colleagues from the Council’s Customer Community Services directorate, transport has been made available to enable our social services staff to support the most vulnerable people within our community. This has enabled us to maintain essential support services and is greatly appreciated by managers, staff and most importantly our service users. It is at times like this when the “Team Merthyr” approach is tested and the way in which colleagues have pulled together to maintain this support is testimony to the dedication and commitment of all our staff.“
There have also been thanks from people within the County Borough for the services provided. Granville Williams of Gurnos Road, whose wife is cared for by staff from the Merthyr Dementia Team and Crossroads Care Home, said: “I would like to thank and praise the Merthyr Dementia Team who never failed to see to the needs of my wife in the most horrible and dangerous conditions during last week’s weather. Thank you one and all”.
Transportation was also laid on for students who were unable to reach Merthyr Tydfil College to sit their exams. The Council published a telephone number so that anyone experiencing difficulty could call and be picked up and taken to the examination site, thus ensuring that no student missed their examination.
