Summer time walking in the stunning Afan Forest Park has been given aboost thanks to Neath Port Talbot Council and Baytrans.

Baytrans is a partnership dedicated to supporting greater use of public transport and is financially supported by Neath Port Talbot Council and First Cymru buses.

Buses run frequently from Neath and Port Talbot to the Park and to all parts of the Afan Valley where many wonderful walks can be found to suit all abilities.

At the end of the walks refreshments are available and bus stops are nearby.

“Local residents in Neath Port Talbot as well as visitors to the Swansea Bay area will be encouraged to explore the delights of this wonderfully scenic area without the need for a car,” says Council Leader Ali Thomas.

“We have some wonderful attractive places right on our doorsteps where people can enjoy a day out, made easily accessible by this bus service.”

Project Officer, John Davies, said, “The natural beauty of the Afan Valley can be best  appreciated by walking along its many former railway trails which can be easily reached by bus.

“This is an important step forward in our promotion of more sustainable access to the countryside in conjunction with Neath Port Talbot Council.”

Buses run every hour on weekdays between Neath and Pontrhydyfen where connections are made with an hourly bus from Port Talbot to Blaengwynfi; further connections are made at Cymmer for Glyncorrwg.
On Sundays, buses run from Neath to whole Afan Forest Park area most hours. Day out tickets are available permitting unlimited travel in the whole area.
