The Friends of Bute Park will host an exciting free family event this Saturday, January 28 between 10am and 3pm.
The Bute Park Big Garden Bird Watch is in partnership with the RSPB. It provides families with the opportunity to come along and learn how to spot and identify different bird species that inhabit the park and at home in their garden.
The event, held at the new Bute Park Education Centre will also give visitors the chance to meet owls and birds of prey from The Owl Sanctuary as well as participating in games and activities including making bird feeders.
The RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch has been encouraging people to count garden birds for over thirty years.
The survey assists the charity in spotting whether bird numbers are increasing or decreasing and what species are in danger of disappearing so that they can help resolve the problem.
When the results are in, they compare the bird numbers in each region with last years to build a bigger picture of what is happening with our UK bird populations.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells said: “This event gives families across the city the opportunity to come along to the Bute Park Education Centre and assist the RSPB in their annual bird count.
“Bute Park is a magnificent attraction in the heart of the city which boasts a rich and diverse range of wildlife. I am sure the Friends Group and visitors on the day will enjoy spotting some wonderful breeds of birds that inhabit this fantastic park.”
