I have been on many in the uk and Cardiff is without a doubt right at the top of great places to visit. There are also many hotels near the scene offering accommodation to suit all budgets.
WOW Bar
Wow Bar has to be the crown of the gay scene. A vibrant colourful bar, attracting a mixed and very friendly crowd, from all aspects of life. Entertainment supplied most nights by some of the city’s leading performers, drags artist Bella Endez and the Lady GA GA Experience to name but a few of the regular stars who perform there.
Also offering, themed nights and a host Saturday nights to pump the vibe up. The venue has two levels with a large dance floor downstairs with some of the best DJ’s in the city. The venue is always clean, the staff are friendly as are the owners, always offering a warm welcome to both old and new.
Wow bar also offers a wonderful menu with food made from locally sourced produce. Happy hour is between 4 and 8 offering great value for money. Wow bar also has a Deli a few doors away selling fresh produce, fresh bread and sandwiches. Wow bar a must visit in the Cardiff’s gay village.

Club X – This city centre gay venue has been at the heart of Cardiff’s clubbing experience for many years. Some may say it’s an institution! Offering the gay scene something that no other venue has – A real underground environment with a music policy to match.
It’s a place for those that like to party the night away in true clubbing style. Club X is a venue where people Who Like their music funky, fresh And full Of energy. Pulse comes on two level, the upstairs bar often offers entertainment, and a downstairs dance area with DJs attracts a mixed crowd. Friendly and also popular with the young glitter crowd. 4 Play offers four zones to be explored and enjoyed. Outside smoking areas, mixed crowd, good dance floor. My only concern about this venue is the toilets which seem to have a plumbing problem of late. Other than that it’s a vibrant, colourful bar with trendy.

The Golden Cross
This is an old style pub which is also a listed building, the cross as it is known lcally attracts regulars and also welcomes new faces. It offers great entertainment and food in a relaxed atmosphere and there is an outside smoking area. An oldie but very much a goody.

Minskys Show Bar
Although not an exclusive gay venue, this is another popular attraction on the Cardiff scene. Hosting drag shows and entertainment from the likes of Cardiff’s own drag star Miss Pixie Perez and Friends. Very popular with hen nights and the odd stag night. Can be found behind Debenhams. You may pay on the door or book in advance, some food is served.

This is the sister venue to Exit Bar. Often referred to as ‘the swishiest Gay bar outside London’, it opened its doors at the beginning of 2005.
With its laid back atmosphere, reasonable drinks prices and two stylish floors, Bar Icon is a key ingredient to any night out in Cardiff.

Kings Cross Pub (KX)
Although not a favourite of Miss Carla’s, the Kings Cross is a firm favourite with the older crowd, entertainment and outside seating area. Soon to be turned in to a straight venue so the brewery who owns the venue has announced recently. In need of redecorating but popular all the same with a relaxed rustic crowd.
