Behind the scenes dash to get Duffydil on to the One Show from our insider at Really Welsh
“I took a call yesterday from the offices of the One show at BBC TV Centre. Alex Jones & Matt Barker were due to interview our very own Pint-sized Pop Princess Duffy on the ONE show this evening….. and they wanted to know if we still had any Duffydils daffodil bulbs in stock, and if we could get some to the show…..
Generally this would have been easy, but all the remaining bulbs were in tubes at the Royal Welsh Show Ground in Builth, ready for next week’s Winter Fair. To make it more difficult still, the call came in at 4.40pm, and with last post leaving Builth at 5.15pm that only gave me 40 minutes to pick up some stock from the showground, and get it to the Builth Wells Post office.
Grabbing my daughter Evie, who would act as packer during the 10 minute ride in to Builth from our home in the hills of Powys, some tape, a marker pen and a red shoe box – with new shoes still in – we jumped into the Landrover, and set off for town.
In all we made it with less than a minute to spare.. Fortunately I’d rung the Post Office, told them what the rush was, and being a small town the team held on for me, & we got 5 tubes of bulbs, the shoe box and scribbled apologetic message into the postal system just in time…. Needless to say Evie (8) was very excited this evening to see Duffy holding the bulbs that she had packed into the red shoe box in the landie only 24 hours ago…. and will doubtless be telling everyone at school tomorrow about her part in the Duffy Dash.
