A reduced budget will not stand in the way of Monmouthshire County Council’s aim to improve services. This is the message in ‘Shaping our Future’, the council’s Improvement Plan for 2014-17.
Monmouthshire remains committed to its vision of building sustainable and resilient communities. This is a long term aim that involves the council working closely with residents, businesses and other partners.
Between September and March hundreds of people took the opportunity to engage with the council to share their views about what public services should look like in future. There was a clear message that services are valued and that the council needs to work hard to transform the way it does things.
Over the next year the council’s focus will be on: improving education provision; building more flexible and responsive social services; enabling the county to thrive through more connected activities at a local level and ensuring that the council is a well-run organisation that uses its resources efficiently.
Commenting after councillors agreed the plan, Council Leader Peter Fox said: “The Improvement Plan describes our vision and ambition for public services in Monmouthshire. There has been a lot of talk in the press about whether Wales needs fewer and local authorities. We remain committed to showing that a small, well-connected organisation can be among the most efficient when it comes to service delivery.”
