Acer Marketing Communications and Isle of Anglesey County Council’s Waste Management Section in partnership with The North Wales Chronicle invite you to ‘The Green Anglesey Open’ golf competition.
This is the first green golf event to be held on the island on Sunday 25th April 2010 at Bull Bay Golf Club. The purpose of the event is to have a great day of golf with the opportunity to compete for a great team prize whilst raising awareness of ‘green’ sustainability issues.
The event is a Stableford team competition for ladies and gentlemen. Your entry fee of £17 per person includes the chance to win great prizes for the top three teams. You will also be treated to a bacon bap and coffee before playing. Each member of the winning team will get to drive a Lotus on the track at Anglesey’s home of green motoring.
“We hope that players will come and join us on Sunday 25th April,” says John Burns, Director of Golf at Bull Bay Golf Club, “We have a great course here and I am sure that we will have a great day of green golf.” Bull Bay Golf Club takes pride in maintaining their course in a sustainable way through careful responsible management.
The committee of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, the governing body of the sport, defines sustainable golf course development as, “Optimising the playing quality of the golf course in harmony with the conservation of its natural environment under economically sound and socially responsible management.” Andy Peel, Head Green Keeper at Bull Bay Golf Club says, “We use traditional stewardship, our grass flourishes with little interference and is part of the natural local environment.”
The event has backing from the Isle of Anglesey County Council’s Waste Management Section and brings together the best of the local business community to raise green sustainability issues. Corporate sponsors of the event include Egniol, James Pringle Weavers of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, The Lastra Farm Hotel, The Trearddur Bay Hotel and Verdant Group Plc.
“We are very pleased that this new and inspiring event is beginning at our club,” says John, “Please come and bring a team of four friends for a green day of golf.” This will be a fun competition where teams of four will play a Stableford competition with the best two scores on each hole to count. Teams will play of full handicap with a maximum 30 for ladies and 24 for gentlemen.
