Police in the Abergele and Colwyn Bay areas are issuing warnings to householders and caravan owners to be on their guard as the weather heats up.
Leaving doors and windows open could be seen as an open invitation to enter your property by opportune thieves.
Over recent weeks several burglaries have been reported in the area and residents are advised to take some simple steps to combat the thieves:
- Close and lock all doors and windows even if out for a short time. Even when you are at home, it is advisable to keep doors locked.
- Make sure the side or back gate is shut and locked.
- Lock the shed or garage
Make sure that valuables are out of sight
- Put keys out of reach from windows or doors
- Make sure the curtains are shut and some lights are on if you are going out in the evening. Use automatic timer switches to turn lights on when it goes dark.
- Do not leave any bicycles or gardening equipment out
- Set your burglar alarm
- Install security lighting. This makes offenders feel vulnerable and observed, they are more likely to choose to target a darkened location.
- Be a good neighbour and report all suspicious incidents to the Police. For non emergencies call 101.
