The Interalia at The Cricketers Pub, Cardiff

Based in Dinas Powys and the Valleys, The Interalia bring a new dynamic to the traditional/celtic scene in South Wales.

The Interalia play a special pre-rugby Irish Night this Friday March 11th at The Cricketers pub in Pontcanna – a new venue for regular live music in Cardiff.

Multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Phil Edwards, Eleanor Tyrrell on fiddle and Thomasin Toohey (on flute, whistles and harmonica) form the original core with Catherine Allen also on fiddle.

Phil Edwards said: “At present we have Huw Chidgey adding tasteful guitar to our material and we are hoping he will have time to be a more permanent band member. Huw is a talented and experienced performer in his own right”

The band was formed out of an informal session in the Borough pub on St Mary’s Street in Cardiff on St Patrick’s Day 2009.

They have gone on to make an impression on the festival scene following heralded appearances at Blue Lagoon, Cwmaman, Brecon, Rumney Folk, Roath Arts Festival, and most recently Cwlwm Celtaidd festival in Porthcawl.

“Our musical influences range from classical to folk, to klezmer and jazz fusion but we all love the Irish tradition and that is reflected in the material we perform.

We love the reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas and airs as well as the songs of yearning for lost  love, family, community and homeland; economic migration and protest.”

Michelle Francis, manager at The Cricketers said: “We are all looking forward to a big Rugby weekend in Cardiff and our Irish night with The Interalia on Friday is the perfect place to get in the spirit for Welsh and Irish Rugby fans alike”

The venue confirmed that dates are also lined up for special Evan Evans music weekends across all the brewery’s venues as part of a committment to support live music across Wales.
