After losing all their equipment in a fire earlier this summer, staff who run the Language and Play sessions at the Margaret Morris Centre, Denbigh, and the Oak Tree Centre, Rhyl, will start again next week with a series of new sessions.
The sessions will run from Tuesday 8th September at the Denbigh centre, toddlers 9.30-11am and babies 1-2.30pm and it will be a welcome return for the 140 children and parents who attend the centres at both Denbigh and Rhyl each week.
Both staff and parents were shocked and dismayed when the Middle Lane office in Denbigh caught fire. This is where all the equipment for the sessions was kept. The fire occurred early on in the summer during a weekend and the team returned on a Monday morning to discover that all resources and computers had been destroyed – meaning sessions had to be suspended.
The team work with over 140 children and their parents each week providing activities to encourage the development of speaking and listening skills, and helping to prepare children for school.
Some parents who attend the sessions were so disappointed that the group had been suspended they clubbed together to buy paint, paper and books so that we could continue the activities.
In September all sessions will be resumed and the Language and Play team are looking forward to once again working with the babies, toddlers and parents in Rhyl and Denbigh.
Language and Play sessions at the Oak Tree Centre, Rhyl, also start on Friday 11th September – toddlers 9.30-11am and babies 1-2.30pm
