The volunteers at the Mumbles RNLI lifeboat station have been tasked to raise money towards their new Tamar class lifeboat by August 2011. They have already raised £79,000 since the late Steve Wood launched the ‘Money for Mumbles’ appeal in August 2009. But there’s still a long way to go and the volunteer lifeboat crew need your help.
The Mumbles RNLI accepted the challenge in 2009 to reach the fundraising target of £150,000 by 2011 towards a new £2.7 million Tamar class lifeboat. The Tamar class lifeboat, capable of a top speed of 25 knots, is one of the most advanced search and rescue vessels in the world. In addition to providing greater speed and capability to get to the rescue more quickly, the Tamar has been designed with crew safety very much in mind, and the RNLI has employed the latest advances in technology to achieve this.
So why not join in, show your support and help us reach the target?
A ‘Summer Tea’ event will be held on the lawn at the Atlantic College on Sunday 25th July between 3pm-5pm. Come and show your support by spending a restful afternoon in the beautiful gardens and pleasant surroundings, enjoying a nice cup of Lifeboat Tea with the crew and other RNLI supporters.
If you would like a challenge, why not sign up and join in the Welly Walk on Thursday 29th July. The welly walkers will be taking part in a fun 3.5km sponsored walk along Swansea Bay where many individuals and groups have already signed up to take part in the eventful evening. Employees from branches of Nat West in the Bridgend area have already joined in the fun by signing up for the walk. Why not follow their example and get your colleagues to join in to?
The Mumbles Fashion week, which starts on 27th September, have also announced their support for the appeal. During the week, fun and fashion will spread throughout the village as supporters raise money towards the RNLI.

‘We are very grateful to all who have supported the RNLI by arranging or signing up for any of the fundraising events. It doesn’t matter how big or small, all donations will help the volunteer lifeboat crew reach their target and save lives at sea.’
The Mumbles RNLI lifeboat station is an extremely busy station, and the new Tamar class lifeboat would be a great benefit to the volunteer lifeboat crew as they continue to save lives at sea.
The RNLI is funded by voluntary donations, not HM Government, and this is why the Mumbles voluntary lifeboat crew needs your help. For more information on the Welly Walk or how to organize your own fundraising event, please contact the West Fundraising Office on 0121 7806960 or e-mail [email protected].
Let’s all join together and show our support to the Mumbles voluntary lifeboat crew.
