Audiences have rated BBC Cymru Wales’ new landmark series The Story of Wales more highly than any other BBC TV series this year.
In an appreciation measure used by the BBC, The Story of Wales, presented by Huw Edwards, scored top marks so far in 2012. Taking the whole of 2011 into account too, The Story of Wales audiences say they have enjoyed it more than any series across the BBC network, excepting only Frozen Planet.
Made by Green Bay Media for BBC Cymru Wales in conjunction with The Open University in Wales, the series has followed Wales’ history from more than 30,000 years ago to the mid 19th century. The remaining two episodes, to be screened on Monday, March 19 and 26, bring the story up to the present day.
Elis Owen, Head of Commissioning for BBC Cymru Wales, said, “The reaction to The Story of Wales has exceeded every expectation and we are delighted that so many of the Welsh viewing public have taken such an interest in the story of our nation. We’d like to thank Huw Edwards and the Green Bay Media production team for delivering this ground-breaking series.”
Series Producers Phil George and John Geraint of Green Bay Media said, “The audience has taken The Story of Wales to its heart. Now we know just how much they’re enjoying the series, a reaction that tallies with the wonderful response we’re getting directly from viewers by letter, phone and online. There’s a real sense of discovery and pride for people in the way Huw Edwards has brought The Story of Wales to life.”
John Geraint and The Story of Wales’ director of photography Mike Harrison will be talking about the series at a Royal Televison Society forum on Monday, March 19, at Cardiff School of Journalism, Bute Building, Cathays Park, Cardiff, from 7pm.
Entry is free on the evening, but to be sure of a ticket contact Hywel Wiliam at [email protected].
The Story of Wales continues on Monday, March 19, on BBC One Wales at 9pm.
