The Vikings are descending on Flint Castle! Come and join them and find out what life was like 1,000 years ago. The Wirhalh Skip-Felag Vikings are setting up an encampment at Flint Castle on Sunday 28 August, where they’ll be bringing history to life, by showing what daily living was like in a Viking village.
See the warriors fight, and learn about their weapons and weaponry. Watch in awe as blood feuds unfold and battles begin!
The group will all be in Viking attire, and, as well as battle scenes, they will also take part in story telling, a slave market, a Viking parliament and a variety of staged set pieces. Members of the public will learn all about Viking life – including medicine in the 10th century; cookery and food technology; animal husbandry and the use of furs, bone antlers and horns; coin striking; weapons displays and ancient woodworking skills.
Coastal Ranger, Karen Rippin, said:
“Flint Castle is such a fantastic setting, and this is a great opportunity for us to show it off at its best. We’re very proud of the fact that Flint Castle is the first castle on the All Wales Coastal Path in Flintshire, and that’s why Flintshire Coastal Rangers have organised this Viking invasion!”
Wirhalh Skip-felag Vikings will be at Flint Castle on Sunday 28 August between 11 am and 4pm. Admission is free.
