As part of the Voice of Youth project, the poet Meirion MacIntyre Huws recently worked with children form Caernarfon’s schools to create poetry.
The poems prepared with pupils from the following schools Syr Hugh Owen, Hendre, Maesincla, Gelli, Santes Helen and Pendalar were transformed onto colourful posters and became works of art. The artists were Meirion Ginsberg, Siân Green, Huw Erddyn, Yvonne Tsang, Sevan Garo and Gethin Wavell.
Gwen Lasarus, Gwynedd Literature Promoter for Gwynedd said: “I’m very pleased that the poems these children have written have been produced into attractive posters with delightful art work by young, local artists and will be displayed in the schools. The children will remember the experience for a long time.”
The Voice of Youth project is a partnership between Gwynedd Council, Academi and Dafydd Hardy Art Gallery in Caernarfon.
See below one of the poems which was composed:
Cofi For Ever
Rapid shadows sliding in the Doc’s water
‘Co Bach’ dialect still brings a smile
Heaven under the clock for the children
The muddy smell, the long whistle of the train
The stones that say ‘keep away’
Cameras, busy on the boat
An avalanche of children, trees and dirt
‘Skinner Streets dusty corners
The crib on the ‘Maes’ at Christmas Time
The fortress that says The Town is Ours
Old St Mary’s Church is full of fun
Syr Hugh. shut for the summer-Hip Hip Hurrah
Wherever I wander the world
All these will be deep in my heart.
