With the next Council elections being held in May 2012, this is the time to consider if you want to stand as a candidate to represent your local community.
As part of the campaign to encourage more people to consider becoming a councillor, Gwynedd Council is staging a series of information events across the county.
Dilys Phillips, Head of Gwynedd Council’s Democracy and Legal Department said:
“There are 75 councillors on Gwynedd Council who work hard to make sure the Council delivers good services for the county’s residents. Councillors are responsible for discussing and agreeing major policies such as the Council budget and setting the level of council tax, and they also help people in their area and get involved with their local communities.
“With a little over six months until the next Council elections, a series of information sessions are being held throughout Gwynedd which will provide information about the role of councillors, how the Council works and how you go about standing for election. If you’re thinking about standing in the May 2012 elections, these sessions will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about becoming a councillor.“
A series of events are being held throughout October 2011, with further sessions to be held in the coming months. At these sessions you will be able to ask Gwynedd Council officers about becoming a councillor, and information packs will also be available.
The upcoming sessions are held on:
- Wednesday, 12 October: 9am – 12.30pm at Galw Gwynedd, Penrhyndeudraeth
- Monday, 17 October: 4pm – 6pm at Frondeg, Pwllheli
- Wednesday, 19 October: 4pm – 6pm at Penrallt, Caernarfon
- Tuesday, 25 October: 2pm – 5pm at Cae Penarlâg, Dolgellau
- Thursday, 27 October: 4pm – 6pm at Trawsfynydd Hall, Trawsfynydd
