Darren Millar, AM for Clwyd West, has congratulated campaigners for raising thousands to improve pedestrian safety in Rhos-on-Sea.
Residents in Rhos-on-Sea have been campaigning for a pedestrian crossing to be installed on Penrhyn Avenue to slow traffic down and allow children in the area to walk to school safely. When efforts to secure the £10,000 needed in public funding failed, local resident Lyndsay French decided to raise the money for the road safety improvements herself. Almost £7,000 has been raised to date.
Darren said:
‘Something has to be done about the safety of this road. The local community needs this crossing to assist them at this busy junction. It’s disappointing that neither the council or the Welsh Assembly Government were willing to cough up the funds.
‘It has taken sheer determination and hard work by Lyndsay and her fellow residents to raise the necessary funds for this crossing.
‘I’m pleased to have been able to support them throughout their campaign. It’s a great example of community spirit and initiative and I congratulate them all on their commendable efforts.’
