The Three Horseshoes pub in Gabalfa, Cardiff turned pink and raised a massive £4,453 for Breast Cancer Research at Velindre Cancer Centre.
The Pink Night, which was held at the end of last year, was the brainchild of Linda Stephens and Sharon Gardner, who have both undergone treatment at Velindre.
Sharon explains “At Velindre you’re not just a number, you’re a person. The staff looked after me and my family so well during a difficult and stressful time. Linda and I were both keen to show our appreciation so this event was about saying thank you.”
Tickets were sold for £10 and Sharon and Linda secured auction and raffle prizes, including a signed and framed Blues shirt, Eric Clapton tickets, and a pamper day for two. On the night there was entertainment courtesy of Mark Llewellyn and ‘£1 a song’ Karaoke. Linda adds “There was a fantastic atmosphere in the pub and everyone gave so generously. We were overwhelmed by the amount raised and are already planning another event next year.”
The pub’s manager, Carl Stephens, said he was delighted with the success of the event: “I’ve known Linda and Sharon for some time so when they approached me with the idea I was more that happy to help. Thanks to them the evening was a huge success, and thanks to everyone who attended we raised a huge amount for a very worthy cause.”
Louise Morgan from Velindre Cancer Centre, visited the pub this week to receive the cheque. She said “We are extremely grateful to Sharon, Linda and everybody who was involved in the evening. A fantastic amount of money was raised which will make a huge difference to cancer patients and their families.”
