Pupils from a North Wales school have given their thumbs up to a new pedestrian crossing.
Work to install the crossing on Penrhyn Avenue, Rhos-on-Sea was completed last week – more than 4 years after the start of a concerted campaign by local campaigners, who were supported by Clwyd West AM Darren Millar.
Schoolchildren from nearby Ysgol Llandrillo-yn-Rhos tried out the new crossing with Darren Millar last week. They are overjoyed with the new facility, which will improve safety on their journey between home and school. New loading bays for local shops and resident parking facilities were also created as part of the scheme.
Speaking after meeting the children, Darren Millar AM said:
“I am absolutely delighted that work has now finished on the crossing. This development has made the area much safer for residents, and children accessing local schools – such as those I have met today from Ysgol Llandrillo-yn-Rhos.
“I would like to thank Conwy County Borough Council for listening to local concerns and I want to pay tribute to Lyndsay French for her tireless commitment to addressing this safety concern.”
Cllr Roger Parry said:
“Pedestrian safety on Penrhyn Avenue has been a longstanding concern so I’m pleased to have been able to work with Lyndsay and Darren to deliver the new crossing. It has been a long time coming, but the efforts have been worth it.”
Lyndsay French said:
“I’m delighted that the crossing has finally been completed and I want to thank everyone who got behind the campaign, particularly those who helped to raise the cash which made it possible, including businesses such as Pentre Car Sales.”
