A North Wales merchandising firm is celebrating after being given the thumbs up by the UK’s largest lawn care company.
Sional Promotional Merchandise Ltd is marking two years of supplying uniforms to GreenThumb to ensure its 1,000-plus workforce, based in a network of 220 branches, always look a cut above.
Founded by entrepreneur Stephen Waring in 1986, GreenThumb’s teams carry out more than two million treatments every year to keep customers’ lawns healthy, weed-free and green.
During the last two years Sional has delivered more than 5,500 items of clothing and other branded items to GreenThumb, which has its HQ in St Asaph Business Park.
The uniforms include the company’s distinctive green and red T-shirts, fleece tops, caps, trousers and waterproof jackets, which the teams wear while they carry out treatments to customers’ lawns. The outfits for the teams and corporate staff are embroidered with GreenThumb’s logo at Sional’s HQ on Llanfairfechan Industrial Estate.
Sional supplies more than 60,000 promotional products for customers, from branded pens to sports clothing, uniforms and hi-vis workwear, with items sent as far afield as Australia.
Among its thousands of customers are UK-based multi-national companies including the British Association of Shooting and Conservation, Bangor Gymnastics Club, Welsh Olympic Trap Team, Quattro Owners Club, Welsh Clay Target Association, North Wales Car Club, Weightlifting Wales, Ysgol Aberconwy and Ysgol Friars, local authorities and charities.
Sional founder and managing director Alan Jones said: “I am delighted, as a local company, to be working with GreenThumb, which is such a well-regarded company here in North Wales and around the UK.
“When I see a GreenThumb van on the road, or its staff working on a customer’s lawn, I am proud that their uniforms were sourced, embroidered and supplied by my team at Sional.
“In the past two years we have supplied more than 5,500 items for GreenThumb, which has just ordered more items for its expanding workforce.
“We have recently invested in another embroidery machine, which will enable us to carry out large orders such as this more quickly
GreenThumb Operations Director Mark Hallam said the company aimed to support local firms were possible.
He said: “It is important to us that customers can easily identify our staff in their uniforms, as we are working in their gardens. For the team members, they require clothing that is comfortable, easy to look after and resilient to a lot of wear.
“We are delighted to be working with Sional, which has delivered excellent customer service during the past two years, along with high quality products that are value for money. Our mission is to give our customers a wonderful lawn and exceptional service, and we also expect a high quality of service from our suppliers
“As GreenThumb continues to grow and expand through our network of franchises, we will continue to use Sional to provide our staff uniforms and other branded items.
Stephen Waring launched GreenThumb in 1986 after seeing lawn treatments in the States and realising the potential for a similar UK service.
He started out with 1,000 leaflets along with a commitment to create a customer-focused business. Today there are more 220 GreenThumb operations from the Isle of Wight to Inverness in Scotland, servicing over 450,000 lawns every 10 weeks.
Its lawn care treatments are designed to work alongside nature and weather conditions at different times of year.
Sional’s products include workwear and uniforms for companies, local authorities, health trusts, hotels, sports clubs and schools. Other promotional goods include banners, key-rings, pens, wallets, toys, bags, umbrellas and even onesies.
The company also runs free online shops for dozens of schools, clubs and societies, helping them to raise much-needed funds.
