Tickets now available for Swansea’s Olympic celebrations

Free tickets are now available for an event in Swansea to help mark the build-up to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The event is being held at Singleton Park on Saturday May 26 – the day the Olympic Torch arrives in the city.

Swansea Council is organising the event. It will be split into two parts: a Sports Village and an Olympic Torch Evening Celebration.

The Sports Village will be open from 1pm and will offer people the chance to take part in and find out more about a range of different sports. Football, sailing, climbing, rowing, judo, athletics, fencing and rugby will be among the sports represented. Fun inflatables will also be on hand as well as demonstration areas.

Gates for the Evening Celebration open at 4pm. The event will feature a two and a half hour stage show that will culminate with the arrival of the Olympic Torch

The show will include 20 minutes of performances to highlight the best local talent. It will finish at approximately 7.30p.m.

Full details of the line-up and artists taking part will be announced in the near future.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council’s Strategic Manager for Marketing, Tourism and Events, said: “The build-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games has already started across the country and now excitement is really gathering pace with the arrival of British Summer Time.

“These two events will combine with the Olympic Torch relay in Swansea to bring Olympic spirit and values right to local people’s doorsteps.

“We’re encouraging as many people as possible to get involved as we countdown to the Olympics as part of our campaign called Be Part of It!

“The events on May 26 are an important element of our campaign because they’ll put Swansea on the Olympic map and will introduce many people to the joy and benefits of sport and exercise.”

The same ticket will allow access to both the Sports Village and the Evening Celebration Event.
