The local environment in Morfa Nefyn will be improved thanks to a cash boost by Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns scheme.
The Ganolfan community centre and playing fields successfully applied for funding to put up new fencing around the playing fields and to repair walls by the enterance to the Ganolfan car park.
Myfanwy Hughes, Chair of the Morfa Nefyn Ganolfan and Playing Fields said:
“The Ganolfan and the playing fields are at the heart of village life and over the past few months the community has been busy organising events to get these important local facilities back on their feet.
“Thanks to the Tidy Towns grant and Gwynedd Council we have been able to press ahead with the work of putting up new fencing around the playing fields and repairing the walls either side of the entrance to the Ganolfan car park.
“Once this work is completed, the place will look much tidier and more welcoming, and this will hopefully provide a boost for our next challenge which is to raise funds to buy new play equipment for the swing park.”
Councillor Gareth Roberts, Gwynedd Council Senior Portfolio Leader for the Environment added:
“It’s inspiring to see communities rolling up their sleeves to improve their local environment. This is an excellent example of Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns scheme having a positive effect on a local community. All the best to the group with their efforts.”
The Tidy Towns grant has been made possible by funding from the Welsh Assembly Government’s environmental improvement programme and Gwynedd Council is working in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy.
The aim of the programme is to support environmental projects such as litter picking and eradicating intrusive weeds, making public spaces more pleasant, planting flowers, improving access and creating nature gardens.
