The local environment in Talysarn and Nantlle will be improved thanks to a cash boost by Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns Scheme.
The Council is offering grants to community groups to improve the natural environment by organising events, undertaking projects and purchasing equipment.
The aim of the project is to support environmental projects such as litter picking, making public spaces more pleasant, planting flowers, improving access and creating nature garden areas.
Grwp Blodeuwedd, a voluntary community group, based in Talysarn and Nantlle has made a successful application and has received funding of £1453.90.
Tom Coleman, the group’s secretary, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns scheme, the money will be used to fund a number of environmental projects such as organising community litter picking days, providing community flower planters, planting young trees around the villages and establishing wildlife planting.
“Our objective is to improve the visual and natural environment of our communities through planting trees, shrubs, wildflowers and seasonal bedding. We will be working closely with the staff and children of Ysgol Talysarn on many of the projects as we believe that it is very important to get the youngsters involved in their community.
“I cannot thank Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns scheme enough for this funding as it will make a huge difference to our work in the community.”
The Tidy Towns grant has been made possible by funding from the Welsh Assembly Government’s environmental improvement programme and Gwynedd Council is working in partnership with Keep Wales Tidy.
