A project to create tidy towns in Neath Port Talbot and give local communities a green makeover is in its final year.
Funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, the programme has already benefited a number of community groups across the County Borough. The Council along with other local authorities across Wales is taking part in this three year long funding project aimed at tidying up towns and cities throughout Wales.
The latest beneficiaries to be awarded grants include Cwmavon Residents Action Committee, Dyffryn Clydach Volunteers, Friends of Craig Gwladys Country Park and Friends of Margam Park.
They were presented with their cheques by Deputy Leader, Councillor Peter Rees at a ceremony last week held in Neath Civic Centre.
Councillor Rees, said, “All of the groups have done some excellent work over a number of years and I hope that these grants will help in no small way in enabling them to continue in the same manner.”
“It is our aim to maintain clean and tidy towns and deal with environmental issues wherever possible. This money will help us improve the surroundings of our towns and villages and it will also involve local community groups bidding for grants to carry out their own schemes.”
The aim of the project is to create cities, towns and villages which are clean and tidy and provide support to local people and community groups to help them take responsibility for the quality of their environment and contribute towards a clean, safe and tidy Wales.
