A TV celeb and local sports stars will be taking centre stage at this year’s Christmas lights switch-on in Wrexham. The event, which is being held on Queens Square on Thursday, November 18, signals the start of the town’s festive celebrations and draws families from across the borough and beyond.
Local radio station Calon FM will be warming things up with music from 5pm. Then at 6pm the Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor Jim Kelly KSG, will welcome the crowds before the main entertainment kicks off, with former Young Magician of the Year Paul Dabek demonstrating his mysterious skills.
Then one of Wrexham’s most famous sons, Tim Vincent, will take to the stage.
TV star Tim will be handing out prizes and goodies, as well as introducing his cast from Wrexham’s Aladdin (showing at Glyndwr University over the festive period). The cast will be performing and taking part in the fun.
Tim said: “I can’t think of a better way to properly kick off Christmas this year than in my hometown alongside the Crusaders, the beautiful Princess Jasmine and a very entertaining dame. It will be a magical night to remember. Wrap up warm!.”
Wrexham’s very own Rugby League stars, the Crusaders, will be available to chat and sign autographs from around 6.30pm, before the big switch-on and finale.
Organised by Wrexham Council’s Economic Development Department, the event is one of several held in the town centre during the run-up to Christmas to help attract shoppers and boost trade for local businesses.
Other events that coincide with late night shopping this year include the opening of Santa’s grotto on Queens Square on Thursday, December 2, the Christmas Market in Church Street and St Giles’ Church on Thursday, December 9 and the Camels and Carols event in Queens Square and St Giles Church on Thursday, December 16.
