Tinsel test at the Garden

Who is top of the tree?

Pupils from 14 schools will do battle at the National Botanic Garden of Wales to find out who is top of the form when it comes to decorating Christmas trees.

There’s a host of prizes up for grabs in this annual competition – which takes place in the stunning surrounds of the Great Glasshouse on Friday December 2.

It will see teams of up to 30 children from primary and secondary schools competing to create the perfectly decorated tree on the theme of a Wild Christmas (no fairy lights allowed!).

The aims of the event are to:

  • demonstrate how household items can be re-used and recycled in innovative ways
  • develop creativity skills and to perform live in front of other schools
  • have fun

Schools taking part are: Gorseinon Primary, Swansea; Pontarddulais Comp, Swansea; QE High, Carmarthen; Aberaeron Primary, Ceredigion; Crynallt Infants, Neath-Port Talbot; St Aidan’s Primary, Haverfordwest; Maes yr Yrfa, Cefneithin, Carmarthen; Gwenllian Primary, Kidwelly, Carms; Heol Goffa, Llanelli;

Garreglwyd, Ysgol y Gwendraeth, Drefach, Carms; Pontarddulais Primary; Gorslas Primary, Carms; Ysgol Y Castell, Kidwelly; and Llangewydd Primary, Bridgend.

The competition is a Careers Wales West/National Botanic Garden partnership event.
