Tom’s Winning Weekend: British Independent Film Awards Most Promising Newcomer

Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama graduate, Tom Cullen has just been awarded Most Promising Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards for his role in the unconventional love story, Weekend.

The critically acclaimed Weekend has already collected numerous awards and nominations, including Best Actor Award for Tom at the Nashville Film Festival, and a nomination for Most Promising Newcomer, alongside co-star Chris New, at London Film Festival. Tom has also been named one of 2011 Screen International Stars of Tomorrow.

While still training at RWCMD Tom, from Aberystwyth, filmed Daddy’s Girl (winner of BAFTA Cymru Best Film) with Jaime Winstone, and Watch Me (nominated for BAFTA Cymru Best Short).

Since graduating in 2009 he has won Best Actor at the IMS Awards for the BBC short, 20 Questions, and has worked in stage, television and film. He is also Artistic Director of Undeb Theatre, based in Cardiff.

Tom is currently filming World Without End, the sequel to the mini-series The Pillars of the Earth, alongside Cynthia Nixon, Miranda Richardson and Peter Firth.
