Ysgol Pendref will be the new name of the school for children who currently attend Ysgol Gwaenynog and Ysgol Heulfre in Denbigh.
Governors who are leading on the merger of the existing infant and juniors schools agreed the name following suggestions put forward by children and parents.
Colin Roberts, who will be the Headteacher of the new school said: “It was a wonderful experience for the children of the two schools to come together to come up with names for the new school. The children learnt about the history of the area with the assistance of local historian Bobby Owen and came up with a list of possible names.”
Governors agreed on the suggestion of Ysgol Pendref which translates as “top of town school”.
The Chair of the Temporary Governing Body, Dave Ansell Jones, said: “Deciding on the name of the school from all the wonderful suggestions put forward by pupils and the community was a difficult task for Governors and that the name that was agreed upon represents the way many people in the town refer to the area of town.”
The new name will come into being at the start of September with Ysgol Pendref operating from the two existing school sites.
