Top Welsh stars have been lined up to help celebrate the St David’s Week Festival in Swansea.
The Automatic and X Factor finalist Rhydian Roberts are among the acts that will perform in the city from February 22 to March 1.
The St David’s Week Festival is the only one of its kind in Wales.
Some of the highlights include:
- The Automatic at The Brangwyn Hall on Monday February 22. Some of their biggest hits include Monster and Steve McQueen.
- Five Welsh bands taking to the stage at the Brangwyn Hall on February 23. Killing for Company, a four-piece rock band featuring Stuart Cable, will headline. Audiocalm, recently voted best emerging band in the UK, will also perform along with Cuba Cuba, Tiger Please and New Day.
- Welsh language singer Meinir Gwilym performing a free gig at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery on February 25.
- Milkwood Jam hosting leading Welsh contemporary poet Patrick Jones on March 1. His work includes The Guerilla Tapestery and Fuse poetry collections.
- Rhydian Roberts, the Morriston Orpheus Choir and the Chamber Orchestra of Wales conducted by Alwyn Humphreys at the Brangwyn Hall on March 1.
Swansea Council is behind the St David’s Week celebrations.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “This festival is a great opportunity for people to celebrate everything that’s wonderful about being Welsh and living in Wales.
“A wide selection of events have been organised to cater for all tastes and the participation of some of the biggest names in Welsh music and poetry will ensure it’s a memorable week.
“I’d urge people to get hold of tickets sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.”
Other events forming part of the festival include a Welsh Day at Swansea City FC, Welsh language taster sessions, arts and crafts activities, free children’s photos, St David’s Day dining and Welsh cake making.
A Get Welsh event featuring local food and drink producers is also taking place in Castle Square on February 27.
