A top Swansea store is now part of an award-winning worldwide online shopping service.
Debenhams, in the city’s busy Quadrant Shopping Centre, is one a handful of the major retailer’s shops chosen to be part of their Endless Aisle project.
Two members of staff have been seconded to the new department, dealing with orders from all over the UK and potentially worldwide as Debenhams now delivers to 66 countries.
Debenhams Store Manager James Loxdale said: “We have created a department within the store that services orders made online at debenhams.com with parcels being collected from the store twice daily.
“It means that Debenhams Swansea is now serving customers far and wide and in the meantime our click and collect service is very popular so it’s an exciting time.
“As a company we’ve really embraced the online side of the business and following our modernisation earlier this year the Quadrant store is well placed to support further growth.
“It means that now wherever you live in the UK you can make an order for something and if we’ve got it in stock here then we can dispatch it anywhere that day.”
Debenhams Endless Aisle scheme has won a number of awards during 2013 including The Supply Chain Initiative of the Year at the World Retail Congress Awards and The ReThink Retail Technology Initiative of the Year and has helped increase its revenue from mobile devices by 128 per cent.
Debenhams has been developing its online service and was leading the way in maximising its resources.
Debenhams decided to take action after noticing that too many online customers were unable to buy items due to lack of distribution centre stock so they came up with the idea of fulfilling the orders from their store network.
Online orders are passed directly to Swansea and dedicated staff at the Quadrant Centre store choose the items for those orders from the stock room.
James Loxdale added: “Stock availability has greatly improved and we’re helping Debenhams to fulfil its online orders.
“It means that here in Swansea we’re not just selling to our local customers but to the whole UK and further afield.”
