On Tuesday, Torfaen council welcomed a delegation of 23 members of the Chinese Ministry of Education, led by their Deputy Director, Professor Liu Shihau.
The delegation from the Education Equipment Research Institute were visiting Torfaen to gain an insight into the innovative direction the county has taken in creating technology rich environments in schools.
Leader of Torfaen Council, Cllr Bob Wellington said: “It’s mind blowing to think a country as globally influential as China is visiting Torfaen to enhance their own learning and to devise the Chinese national strategy for primary education. It’s very reassuring that our vision for our children’s education in Torfaen which is coming to fruition, is now attracting interest from across the world and will influence the future education of Chinese children.”
The delegation visited the Cisco academy in Blaenavon, the ICT plaza at Abersychan School and the teacher-training plaza in county hall where they viewed the a 3-D classroom, TV studio, technology suite and training rooms, which are used by both staff and pupils from Torfaen and Monmouthshire.
The delegation also visited the innovative Shared Resource Centre in Blaenavon which acts as a regional public service IT hub and data centre, and had a demonstration of touch screen software created by Torfaen’s software developers for education and Windows 7 applications.
