Tourism speed dating

Neath Port TalbotOver 25 people from tourism businesses in Neath Port Talbot came to a networking evening with a difference.

They all took part in a highly successful two hour speed networking session – a new experience enjoyed by all.

Organised by Neath Port Talbot Council in the Dulais Valley village of Crynant, the event gave businesses the opportunity to build partnerships and chat about issues affecting tourism in the county borough.

Proprietors of local attractions, hotels and bed and breakfasts talked positively about how tourism is expanding in Neath Port Talbot and how the council’s dedicated tourism coordinators are developing tourism in valley communities.

Guests were welcomed by tourism officer, James Williams, who invited them to join in the ‘business speed dating’ introducing themselves and chatting.

Officers from the council’s economic development team were also on hand to talk informally and offer advice.

The project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales (2007-13) which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said he was pleased to hear that the networking evening was such a success.

“There was a good turnout from tourism businesses and it is encouraging to see them willing to work together so that all can benefit.

“Tourism is a growing industry in Neath Port Talbot and making contacts and working together are key ingredients for businesses to succeed.”
