Tourist information gets a spruce up

Cardiff’s busy Tourist Information Centre (TIC) moves to a temporary home on January 4 while its shop front in the Old Library is refurbished.

The TIC will relocate to the foyer of St David’s Hall, opposite the Old Library, until the work is complete in early
February. All its regular services will be available as usual, except for left luggage lockers and public internet access.

The temporary TIC will be open from Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5.30pm, while the telephone call centre will
available as usual 7 days a week (same hours as the TIC, and10am to 4pm on Sundays).

Cheryl Clarke, Manager of the TIC, says every effort is being made to make sure that services continue uninterrupted.

Cardiff is one of the busiest TICs in Wales and because the city attracts visitors all year round there’s never an ideal
time to close, even temporarily,” she said.

“But we’re only moving over the road from our usual home, and people can contact us by phone as normal, so we’re still able to offer our information and accommodation booking services for people planning to visit the city, and the new-look TIC will be open in good time for the first 6 Nations match in Cardiff on February 13.”

Cheryl added:”Over the past 3-4 years we’ve seen the city centre being redeveloped around us, andour new TIC will
reflect these exciting developments, as well as offering a more welcoming environment for visitors. In addition, the new layout will accommodate a second entrance to The Cardiff Story, Cardiff‘s new museum, which opens in the Old Library in late 2010, giving tourists an opportunity to orientate themselves to Cardiff and its proud history.”

Visitors can contact the Tourist Information Centre on 029 2087 3573, or by email at [email protected]. Information  is also available at www.visitcardiff.com.
