The management of Llangollen Town Hall is to be officially transferred to the Town Council following a ground-breaking partnership with Denbighshire County Council.
This initiative, believed to be the first of its kind in North Wales, has come about after Denbighshire County Council hosted numerous discussions with the Town Council about transferring the responsibility for running the building and on-going programme from the county to town council level.
Councillor Paul Marfleet, Cabinet Lead Member with responsibility for Modernisation, said: “The Council has been looking at finding more efficient ways of working for a number of years and one of the key areas of work we have been looking at is the possibility of town and community councils taking over the responsibilities for some of the county council’s services.
“This transfer supports our corporate priority of regenerating our communities and our vision to devolve more responsibility and empower our communities and associated town and community councils.
“Both parties have looked at a range of options but from the outset it was clear that Llangollen Town Council wanted the opportunity to have more responsibility for the day to day management of the building and programme.
“Llangollen Town Council already had use of an office and a meeting chamber at the Town Hall. It was felt that by having the freehold of the building they would be able to safeguard the future of the Town Hall as the centre of the community”.
Jamie Groves, Denbighshire’s Head of Leisure, Libraries and Community Development, said: “We are delighted to see this ground-breaking project come to fruition. One of the Council’s visions is to become closer to its communities and this partnership is a prime example of what can be achieved where there is a strong will to work together for the benefit of local communities.”
