A top travel expert is to urge Anglesey’s tourism operators to help shape the future of the industry.
Simon Calder, resident travel pundit on the BBC’s One Show, and roving editor of the Independent newspaper, believes it’s vital they attend a meeting in Llangefni later this month.
Mr Calder will be speaking at one of three events organised by Tourism Partnership North Wales and described as “a call to arms” for the region’s tourism operators.
He stressed, “At a time of shrinking marketing budgets, it’s crucial for people at the sharp end of the tourism business to get their voices heard, learn from each other and work together. I would urge trade members to come to one of the three meetings to ensure they influence the future of the visitor economy in North Wales.
“I’m thrilled to be returning to Anglesey, because I like to think I’m one of the relatively few who appreciate what this extraordinary corner of Wales has to offer the traveller. And, while I’m here, I hope they’ll take every opportunity to tell me a few more Anglesey secrets.”
The County Council’s Tourism and Marketing team are inviting local tourism operators to attend the event to discuss the future of tourism on Anglesey.
Principal Tourism and Marketing Officer, Gethin Morgan, explained, “The current economic climate is having an impact on all sectors, with the tourism industry no exception. Meeting with local tourism operators and discussing ways we can boost the Island’s tourism product will be invaluable. We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with Tourism Partnership North Wales and Croeso Cymru on this project.”
Anglesey Tourism portfolio holder, Councillor Bob Parry OBE, added, “This meeting represents a great opportunity for tourism operators to shape the future of the industry. We’ll be interested to hear both their views and those of Simon Calder during what I’m sure will be an interesting and constructive meeting for the tourism industry on Anglesey.”
Simon Calder will be speaking at the Council Chamber, Llangefni on November 22nd of 2010. The event will be held between 10.00am – 2.00pm.
The TPNW’s two other meetings will be held at Caernarfon and Mold, where leading academic Professor John Lennon, will attend as the keynote speaker.
Demand to attend the Llangefni meeting is expected to be high. If you’re interested in attending please contact Emma Baguley as soon as possible on 01248 752450 or e-mail: [email protected]
