Over 40 visitors representing a mix of domestic and overseas destinations, tour operators and airlines, visited Margam Country Park and Afan Forest Park to experience what Neath Port Talbot and Wales has to offer as an outdoor tourist destination.
The event was organised by Visit Wales as part of the Guardian and Observer Travel Awards that were held in Cardiff last week.
The Awards offered the opportunity to showcase Wales to the invited travel industry guests. Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council and Forestry Commission Wales were delighted when guests chose to spend a day in Margam Country Park and Afan Forest Park.
Guests were encouraged to participate in a range of outdoor activities. At Margam they climbed thirty foot trees at Go Ape, strolled around the impressive Margam grounds and were taken on a Land Rover safari to spot deer. They also got to taste a little of what the Discovery Centre has to offer.
At Afan Forest Park some guests got the chance to experience a Welsh adrenaline rush through riding some of the most popular mountain bike trails in the world. Skyline Cycles in Afan Forest Park kindly provided the bikes. Others were taken on guided walks, including a newly planned route that will celebrate the life of Richard Burton, who was born in Pontrhydyfen.
Leader of Council, Ali Thomas, stated “Neath Port Talbot was delighted to host those representatives of the Travel Trade who were in Wales that were out getting a flavour of the outdoor activities on offer in the Welsh countryside. It was a great opportunity to showcase some of our top tourist attractions such as Afan Forest Park and Margam Park. We hope that they enjoyed their trip and will promote the area to others’.
