A pioneering new website for young Gypsies and Travellers was launched today by Wales’ Social Justice Minister Carl Sargeant.
The website is the first of its kind in the UK and is part of the Save the Children Travelling Ahead project, which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and BBC Children in Need. The project gives young Gypsies and Travellers in Wales a voice on decisions that affect them.
Carl Sargeant said,
“Wales has a diverse society with a rich mix of cultures and traditions. The Gypsy Traveller community forms part of our society.
“All our communities need to live along side each other and understand the differences which make us all unique, and appreciate the values which bind us together.
“The Travelling Ahead website is a great start for young Gypsy Travellers across Wales to share their ideas and experiences and help them learn more about getting involved in the wider community around them.
“Under the One Wales agenda the Welsh Assembly Government will produce a Gypsy and Traveller strategy. This website forms part of the strategy and I am delighted to meet the children and young people that have been so influential in developing this.”
